A winning Novice Mixed 8+ returning to the dock at the Martha Coffey Frostbite Sprints, Argonaut Rowing Club, Toronto.

Learn to Row is where it all starts for many rowers and at Island Lake this past season, new rowers had to jockey for a spot on the dock as our programs were extremely popular. ILRC offers new rowers several options when first getting into a boat. Initially, members of the public can get the feel of a boat at our Come and Try day that had over 100 people register for the event. To learn the skill of rowing, ILRC offers an intensive weekend program or 2 sessions per week for a month, either as an early morning row or in the evening. A total of 26 people participated in our programs and of those, 20 new rowers chose the option to continue rowing for the remainder of the summer which is the best way to consolidate new skills and to continue enjoying a great time on the water. To top it all off, a group of new rowers got together twice weekly throughout the Fall to train with some of our coaches to prepare for their first regatta. 8 new rowers attended the Martha Coffey Frostbite Sprints at the Argonaut Rowing club in Toronto on October 31st and came away with first place medals in 2 of the 4 events they entered.
